This world-recognized authentic burgers hide well even from the eyes of some locals.
Ranked by TripAdvisor in 2014 as the second-most popular Japanese restaurant among non-Japanese customers, this acclaimed hamburger shop is located not in Tokyo or Osaka, but in Hida-Takayama. And it’s not some major street-front store; it’s in the place where only the locals in the know can find. Hida-Takayama is an atmospheric town also known as "Little Kyoto." But the interior of the Center4 Hamburgers store looks like something straight out of a foreign country. With its many non-Japanese fans, you’ll hear a multitude of foreign languages spoken here—you might even forget you’re in Hida-Takayama!
Ingredients are strictly selected, in pursuit of delicious flavor.
The goal of manager Manabu Takanaka is simply delicious hamburgers, using fresh vegetables, sweet buns, and patties full of powerful meaty flavor. Bringing out the flavor of each ingredient to its fullest was a painstaking process of repeated trial and error. No effort is spared with the potato fries (with the skin left on) and the marinated onion and tomato garnish. This authentic taste has gained a lot of local non-Japanese fans, as well as others who travel a long way just for these burgers.
Available in limited quantities only – make sure you try the Hida beef burger when you visit!
The store’s most popular burger is the Hida Beef Burger, which uses a meat patty made from the local specialty of Hida beef. These patties are made with rough ground mince and heavily grilled. Bite into one and the juices will overflow with the delicious taste of beef. Even visitors from America, home of the hamburger, have declared this a fantastic burger. The Hida Beef Burger is limited to a certain number of sales per day, so you should visit as early as possible. If the Hida Beef Burger is sold out, the Bacon Cheeseburger also an excellent choice. This well-established store conveys the great charm of Takayama through its hamburgers. It’s definitely worth a visit despite its hard-to-find location.
